Who am I? – The Intro Post

Hi, and welcome to W4L7 Travels! This is my very first post here on W4L7 Travels, so thank you for stopping by. My name is Steve, and I’ve always had an interest in exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. Travel, for me, isn’t just about seeing new places. It’s about the stories, the people, and the small details that stick with you long after you’ve returned home.

A few things about me:

  • I enjoy history, cultural exploration, beer, bourbon, and barbecue. I’m an aviation nerd and a budding amateur photographer (mainly to take aviation pictures).
  • For me, half the fun of a vacation is the months prior when I can obsess about researching the local cultures, foods, and sites to be seen.
  • I have finally reached a point in my life where I am able to travel beyond simple road trips around my home in the Midwest. I have so much planned for the coming years. That said, my favorite trip so far has been my first trip to Yellowstone and the Tetons. It was life changing.

Once I started vacationing abroad with my first trip to Mexico, I figured out pretty quickly how much a good travel agent can take the stress out of traveling. That’s when I found Alison, while planning a birthday trip for my wife, and honestly, I wouldn’t leave home without her in my corner. I like to share my travel stories, so I started sending Ali little trip reports. It gives her a fresh perspective on the places I visit and helps her see what I actually care about on a vacation. After my latest write-up on Okinawa, she asked if I’d ever thought about travel journalism. Well, no… not until she said it. And now here we are, with me kicking off a travel blog. My plan is simple: share my trips, the lessons learned along the way, and a few travel mishaps for good measure. Trips end, memories fade, but writing them down keeps them alive, and maybe helps someone else plan their own adventure.

What makes this blog different? It’s not just about where I went, but also about the how and the why. I’ll share honest impressions, useful tips, and the kind of small details that don’t always make it into guidebooks and YouTube videos but make a trip memorable. You’re going to get my own unique perspective.

Here’s a bit of what you’ll find on W4L7 Travels:

  • Trip reports and reviews: Honest thoughts on the places I visit.
  • Itineraries and planning tips: Useful information for putting together your own trips.
  • Photography and storytelling: The photography may be a stretch because I’m not very good at it. Stories I can handle and I have some that I think are pretty good.
  • Cultural insights: The traditions, food, and people that make each destination unique. Maybe my favorite part of travelling.

I don’t have a posting schedule yet, but I’m shooting for having something to say every other week at the start and maybe more often whenever I’ve got something worth sharing.

  • Favorite destination so far: Yellowstone and the Tetons.
  • Bucket list trip: Ireland
  • Travel style: I’m a planner and researcher so I like to have a good idea of what I’m getting into.

Thanks for checking out my very first post. I’m excited to start this journey and share it with you. If you’ve made it this far, I’d love to hear from you:
